How can we believe in offering products that improve the wellbeing of people while forgetting those that help us produce them? Alpro is active in a number of projects that directly support the people we work with. We like to think we can help them and the future generations enjoy a decent lifestyle.
Brazil – Hope through education
The “EDHUCCA”* project in Brazil’s Parana is an ambitious programme that offers training and activities to teenagers and adults, with a view to widening the opportunities they have in life.
They learn computing, hygiene training and skills that help them increase their chances of being employed.
Teenagers also get help after school, cutting the number who dropout of school. Alpro provides direct support to the bodies that run this programme.

Fighting malnutrition in Africa
In Africa, Alpro supports “Vitagoat”, an exciting programme that fights malnutrition by providing the resources to better process foodstuffs such as soya. The goal is to provide a sustainable source of protein that is processed locally, and also encourage people to break the cycle of poverty and malnutrition.
Its unique advantage is that it runs on pedal power. So it can be used without electricity, generators or running water. This is a significant feature, as electricity is very expensive in these countries, and very often not available.
This ingenious, low-cost and non-electric system is used to steam-cook or cycle-grind grain or vegetables. The use of soya, cereal and grain as raw materials provides best use of available land and water resources. Finished products can include a range of soya products, flour and meal, fruit and vegetable juices, peanut butter and paste as well as ground coffee. Alpro soya supports the developer of the project, Canada’s Malnutrition Matters.
