It’s clear that we are all closely bound to nature. So Alpro firmly believes in the long-term benefits of a more sustainable approach to farming.
Globally, more and more land is being used to produce food. This has affected the natural landscapes and water quality across the world. The steady decline of the Amazon Rainforest, which is being cleared to make land available for farming, is also worrying many people.
None of the farms Alpro buy from are on deforested land and all respect natural crop rotation. To guarantee this – and to ensure the healthiest product possible – Alpro operates an impressive traceability programme that goes far beyond the required standards from the farmer right up to the end product. We also have long term relationships with the farmers we buy from. In March 2007 we visited the Atlantic rainforest in Brazil to get a greater understanding of the impact of illegal felling. We respect nature when sourcing our soya beans. We use soya produced in the most natural way possible, grown from a traditional variety which has not been genetically modified and that has been used for thousands of years.
Together, these notions give an idea of the way we approach food production. These same values are equally important in our factories in Belgium, France and the UK that strive to improve performance. Each of them respects our standards in sustainable production, seeking to recycle as much material, energy and resources as possible. All the water is purified, for example, and the soya pulp and peel is transformed into animal feed. We use Tetra Pak cartons, recognised as a “best choice for the environment” by the European Commission. (as to recycling)
Our entire production cycle is subject to our ethical code that covers everything from the selection of beans to the regular controls that ensure we maintain the highest standards at every level. This is why Alpro soya products are so good – so consistently.
